The dissertation is a translation report.The translation project is to translate the introduction and the first three chapters of the biography “Never Enough: Donald Trump and the Pursuit of Success” into Chinese.The target language readers are the Chinese who want to know the legendary experience of the new president of the United States,Donald Trump.The book tells the story of the history of the Trump family and the experience of Donald Trump's success in the business,entertainment and political circles,and the ultimate success of the election of the president of the United States.The source text embodies his straightforward,sharp and even slightly vulgar language style.This report consists of five parts.The first part introduces the translation project.The second part is Peter Newmark's text type theory and his semantic and communicative translation methods.He believes that biographical texts are expressive and belong to the expressive text,and the semantic translation method should be adopted.The third part introduces the process of translation.The fourth part is case studies,which is also the main part of this report.The first and second chapters of the source text describe the history of the Trump family and the formation of Donald Trump's character,which belong to the expressive text,and the translator mainly adopts the semantic translation method.With a large number of political and military terms at the lexical level,the translator adopts the translation method of addition;it includes a large number of difficult sentences at the syntactic level,the translator adopts the translation method of conversion;there are a large number of references in the source text at the discourse level,and the translator adopts the literal translation.The introduction and the third chapter of the source text introduce Donald Trump's image in the eyes of the public,the beginning of his business success and several important games in business,which belong to the compound text containing the expressive,informative and vocative text types.The translator mainly uses communicative translation.There are a lot of idioms and slang at the lexical level.The translator uses free translation;there are a large number of non-restrictive attributive clauses,the translator adopts the translation method of division;there are a large number of background knowledge in literature at the discourse level,and the translator adopts the translation method of addition.This report explores the types of biographical texts and their corresponding translation methods,the translator has got the following experience through translation practice and case studies: first,the premise of translating biography is to grasp characters and language styles in order to accurately describe the characters,which requires the translator to read a large number of parallel texts and investigate the life of the master and the relevant background and writing style of the author.Second,the translator thinks that the text type should be determined first,then decides what translation methods and specific translation techniques should be used.In the end,biographical text has a strong timeliness and contains many historical events.The dialogue of characters covers different fields and needs the translator to accumulate historical knowledge and professional vocabulary.The translator hopes that the report will contribute to the study of biographical literature,and also hopes to provide a reference for the translation of biographical literature and benefit the future translation practice.
