Allusion Translation In Scientific And Technical Texts

This translation report is based on Derek C.Schuurman's Shaping a Digital World: Faith,Culture and Computer Technology.The source text is scientific and technical texts,including five chapter,which mainly introduces the relationship between computer technology and religious beliefs.The author's task is to translate two chapter of the text.In the chapter of case analysis,the author dissects and elaborates the translation problems of semantic default,contextual default and cultural default that due to allusion.To solve these problems,the author uses different translation methods and techniques to realize translation compensation such as using substitution,annotation,specification and abstraction to compensate semantic default,while to solve contextual default by applying addition,extension and syntactical readjustment.When dealing with the translation problems in cultural default,the author uses the method of annotation outside text and free translation.All in all,the author intends to quest appropriate translation strategies and methods to solve the translation of allusion in the scientific and technological texts.Hoping that this report will provide some valuable references for other translators in future.
