A Study On Book Copyright Export In China And United States

With the development of economic globalization,internationalization of publishing has become an inevitable trend;also the development of copyright trade has drawn increasing attention among more nations.The question about how to protect and develop the copyright industries and promote the copyright trade,particularly the development of book copyright export,has become the topic issue nowadays.Compared with the inadequate protection and development of copyright trade in China,the copyright industries in United States have made great contributions to the growth of their economies.Besides,the legal protection system for copyright industries has been better after decades of development.The United States is the world's largest book copyright export state.Accordingly,based on the research methods of data analysis,document analysis and case study,this article has a study on the statistical data of Sino-US book copyright export from 2009 to 2012.From the view of major exporting countries and regions,contents and categories of exporting books,the main exporting channels,this article summarizes the characteristics of book copyright export in China and the United States.Then based on the theory of SWOT model,and through the analysis on causes of disparity of book copyright export between China and United States,and finally combined with China's specific national conditions,this article puts forward beneficial advices on the book copyright export in our country.First of all,this article explains the background and significance of this research.On the one hand,due to China's rapid economic development,as well as the actively guiding and protecting from relevant policies,copyright export in our country has been into a new period.However,there is a relatively large deficit in copyright trade in our country and the foreign readers have prejudice on Chinese book market.On the other hand,United States accounts for the main part of world book copyright export.Therefore,through a comparative study on the book copyright export in China and United States,this author tries to summarize some useful beneficial advices to China.Secondly,this article has a summary on the current situation and characteristics of book copyright export in China from 2009 to 2012.Since 1990,the first Copyright Act was enacted in China.In recent years,"going global" strategy has been popular.Both of them provide a beneficial legal environment for the development of China's book copyright export.China's book copyright export has experienced a sprout and developing period,and now it is gradually narrowing the gap between the powerful copyright country and China.Thirdly,this article has a summary on the current situation and characteristics of book copyright export in United States from 2009 to 2012.Copyright industries in United States are one of the pillars of its economic development,playing an important role in the national economy.From the first 1790 copyright law,followed by more than 200 years,United States has revised and improved on copyright law,which provide a good social environment for the development of book copyright export in United States.The book copyright export in United States shows the three main characteristics:the diversity of main exporting countries and regions,variety on contents and categories of exporting books and diversified of output channels.Then,through the SWOT model,this article analyzes the internal and external environment during book copyright export process in China and the United States from the point of its own advantages and disadvantages,and the challenges and opportunities offered by external environment.On this basis of above analysis,this article summarizes the causes of disparity of book copyright export between China and United States.These factors include published resources,legal protection,economical and political advantages and so on.Finally,combined with China's specific national conditions,the last part of this article puts forward some beneficial advices on the book copyright export in our country.The author believes that our book copyright export should start with channels?contents and operation mode of copyright export and so on.Through these methods,we can continuously promote the book copyright export with better and faster development.
