Through comparison, this thesis attempts to comb the origin and development of Neo-Gramscianism. On the premise of well-interpretation of Neo-Gramscianism, the similarities and differences are clearly stated through the comparison between Neo-Gramscianism and classical Marxism as well as Neo-Gramscianism and Frankfurt school. During the process of comparing, three elements:material capability, ideas and institution of historical structure should be focused when analyzing the core conception, genuine origin, profound connotation, concrete manifestation and its change during the historical process of the thought. Thus, a clear line of succession of the relationship among Neo-Gramscianism, classical Marxism and western Marxism should be exactly analyzed. Besides, the value and the deficiency of Neo-Gramscianism can also be objectively evaluated.Neo-Gramscianism is the critical thought on the change of the world political configuration and the power of each social class in the 1970s and 1980s. The theory not only focuses on criticism but its theoretical construction, profoundly criticizing the unreasonableness of the capital order, meanwhile, forming historical structural theory with its unique characteristics. Neo-Gramscianism referred to classics without blindly inheritance and followed the tradition of classical Marxism while eliminated its production determinism. In addition, it treated the material power as important as ideology. Neo-Gramscianism absorbed some viewpoints from the mainstream theory multiply and openly and employed historicism to do some research but not empiricism.Neo-Gramscianism focuses its attention on the contradiction and conflicts during the process of production and treats these factors as the motivation to change the historical structure and world order, and tries hard to construct new world order. This theory combines the two respective field——Marxism with international relationship, which not only improves the Marxist international relationship but also promotes the innovation of the theory of international relationship.
