The Study Of Self-identity Construction Of The Resident Youth Volunteers In Beijing Longquan Monastery

The construction of self-identity is very important for young people who are in the “identity crisis”.Nowadays,the study on the construction of youth self-identity focuses mainly on the relationship between self-identity and modernization.The construction of the particular type of youth self-identity mainly studied the situation of self-identity of different groups,such as teachers,migrant workers,students etc.This study focused on the construction of self-identification of special youth groups,which chooses the resident youth volunteers of Beijing Longquan Monastery for study.This paper study the self-identity process of the resident youth volunteers in Beijing Longquan Monastery,which changes from self-identity crisis to self-identity and then amount to harmony.This study adopts qualitative research,based on nine resident youth volunteers of Beijing Longquan Monastery,using participant observation,informal conversations and formal semi-structured interviews to collect research data.The results are as follows: firstly,youth self-identity crisis include a sense of loss of self significance,the interrupt of the continuity of oneself and the deprivation of self subjective.Contextual factors leading to youth self-identity crisis including the alienation of man in modern society,the missing or overprotect from significant others and the failure of moral education.Second,the youth who are in self-identity crisis rebuild their self-identity after staying in Beijing Longquan Monastery a long time,they clear the “fault” and ”past” self,focus on “present” self and plan for the “future” self.In the process of the rebuild of self-identity,Beijing Longquan Monastery plays a significant role for the buddhism faith.What's more,after they rebuild their self-identity,they reach to harmony.They reach self subjective,self significance and self continuity,such as “I contribute and I enjoy it”,”I have strength” and so on.In the last,the overall performance of self-identity of the resident youth volunteers in Beijing Longquan Monastery are as follows: though the rebuild of self-identity on the time dimension,they reach the harmony on the Transversal dimension.So,in order to help the youth who are in the self-identity crisis,we need to analyze specific issues and adopt different methods.And for ideological and political educators,we should put high emphasis on the rebuild of people's faith.Political belief is the first,but we should also respect for religious beliefs.
