Italian colony is the beginning of modern history of Libya, opening up the process of Libyan modernization. But the consequences of colonial leads to heavy losses on Libyan economy and population, which can be not forgotten is more harm on Libyan economy and population suffered heavy losses. Italian initially tried to support the local regime in Libya to achieve indirect rule, but it is weak to power control, then this idea is eventually shattered. After the Fascist Party was in power, the colonial policy on Libya changed, Italy made Libya as the nineteenth administrative region which called "Fourth Shore", and implemented the large-scale population settlement plan.This paper discusses Italian colonial process and influence on Libya from three aspects. First, from 1870 to 1911, the Italian colonial policy on Libya mainly focused on economic penetration, by controlling the maritime trade exports and coastal core cities of commerce and trade. But this control was very narrow. Second, Italy opened the progress of military aggression in Libya after went through Italian-Turkish War, but the Libyan showed a strong sense of resistance, and thus was stimulated the sense of nation and religious sentiments sentiment of religious. So the Italian armistice had to back to coastal areas. Third, the Fascist Party came back to handle power and changed the colonial policy to Libya. Mussolini violently suppressed of resistance movement, Libya completely became Italian colony until the country received independence after World War II. But the damaging effects of the Italian colonization in Libya is enormous. Although it promoted Libyan nationalism and national consciousness, but the destructive effect on Libya's cultural, economy and society can be not ignored.
