Before the independence,because Britain and Bahrain signed the Trucial Treaty,Bahrain needed to refer to the opinion of the United Kingdom.The foreign policy decision made in Bahrain should not conflict with the British interests.Bahrain's diplomatic orientation was a unilateral diplomacy,which only focus on the development of the British diplomatic relations.There were no official relations with America and others.Due to the military threat of Iran,Bahrain must kept closely tied with Britain.It can be said that before the independence of Bahrain,the foreign policy was a unilateral diplomacy,which was traditional and rigid.Bahrain declared independence in 1971,and began to make the foreign policy independently.After the independence of Bahrain,the foreign policy has changed obviously.Bahrain got rid of the shackles of Britain,began to develop relations with USA and the GCC and tried to make establishment of the alliance.Bahrain was no longer subject to any treaty restrictions,but the core of the national interests.It began to develop a foreign policy with the national.After the independence,the foreign policy tendency of Bahrain was obviously localization and orient.It attached great energy to make relations with the member states of GCC.In this period,the diplomatic thinking of Bahrain was pluralistic and flexible,and it was based on Arabia and Islam,and changed to a clear position.The reasons for the changed of foreign policy in Bahrain were mainly because of the four aspects.First,after the independence of Bahrain,the consciousness of the nation-state has enhanced,and Bahrain began to make its own foreign policy according to the history and reality of the nation.Second,after the independence of Bahrain,the Bahrain free of interest kidnapping.It's no longer regarded the interests of the UK as the center of gravity.Third,the British retreated from the Middle East,Bahrain lost Britain's military protection.It lived the complex and volatile Gulf region,and it had to keep neutral to maintain the country's security and independence among the strong powers.Fourth,the establishment of the GCC provided a platform and opportunity for Bahrain.Bahrain established community of destiny with other members of GCC by participating in the GCC,and jointly safeguard the stability in the region and the nation's security.
