During radar target moving, target itself or its components are often accompanied by micro-motion, such as rotor of propeller aircraft, ships of turbulence, the arm swing of human body and the vehicle wheel rotation, etc. Micro-motion refers to any micro vibration, rotation, or high order movement, except for target itself plane motion. The concept of micro-motion was first put forward in the research field of coherent laser radar, since it was introduced to microwave radar field, providing an effective way for radar target recognition and classification, and quickly became one of research focus in the radar academia and engineering.Based on wheeled vehicles and tracked vehicle as the research object, the micro-motion modeling of the vehicle target, analysis and extraction of micro-doppler features and vehicle target classification have been studied deeply.(1) The research status of vehicle target recognition has been reviewed and summarized in detail, which providing for a certain reference to the ground vehicle target classification and recognition;(2) The general micro-doppler model of single scattering rotation is deduced in detail, on this basis, the micro-motion models of tracked vehicle and wheeled vehicle have been conducted respectively. The difference of two kinds of vehicle in micro-doppler spectrum time-frequency images has been analyzed with the simulation echo, which establishing a theoretical foundation for the classification based on micro-doppler spectrum.(3) Using the difference of tracked vehicles and wheeled vehicle in micro doppler time- frequency images and extracting the features of the two images, two kinds of classification, which are based on the composite matrix and structure characteristics, have been offered. The validity and availability of the proposed method has been verified by the simulation data.
