Legal Cognition And Political Value Of The Chinese Residents

The residents’ political value is the core of the political culture,which is also an important factor affecting the residents’ political behavior.The political value of Chinese residents is in a transforming stage and the academic circles have paid much attention to it.However,for the topic whether legal cognition affects the political value of residents,it lacks special research in the academic circles.Under the current background of comprehensively promoting the rule of law and deeply developing publicity and education of rule of law,it is necessary to study the influence of legal cognition on Residents’ political value.The core problem of this research is that what the condition of Chinese residents’ legal cognition,political value is and whether or how their legal cognition affects the political value.Based on the statistical analysis of the data of Chinese General Social Survey in 2010,we found: first,the level of legal cognition Chinese residents is low as a whole and their cognition of legal procedure is lower than that of legal knowledge.Second,the democracy political value and authoritarianism political value of Chinese residents appear a “double high” situation and the former is better than the latter.Third,the legal cognition of Chinese residents has obvious significance on their political value--the promotion of their legal cognition has an adverse effect on the authoritarianism political value,but plays a positive role on the democracy political value.After further discussion of above conclusions,we found: first,the higher authoritarianism political value of the residents will provide a firmer social mentality support for the government to further promote the reform and development,and to maintain social stability by virtue of this higher authority identification;Second,the growing democracy political value of the residents,puts forward new requirements and challenges for the transition of government’s work,but due to its more trend to substantial democracy rather than participatory democracy,it has a great inclusiveness about the authoritarianism;Third,we should correctly understand the relationship between legal cognition and political value,and full play the guidance and promotion role of legal cognition on political value of the residents.The study argues that China should not continue to be a test site for the various foreign theories,but the birthplace of the theory.China’s democratic theory should be rooted in the essence of Chinese culture and developing practice and to be recognized and built again.In fact,Chinese people are also reexplaining and defining the "democracy" based on their historical background,cultural environment and political practice.
