Variable message sign is the product of traffic management information.VMS has been widely studied in the world,and it has been widely used in urban expressway,highway and parking lots,and has formulated the corresponding standards and norms.The driver mainly relies on the visual system to obtain VMS information content,VMS as one of the important platform to provide traffic information,has the characteristics of real-time,the driver based on VMS visual recognition,make decision,and then make the correct driving operation,can help the driver know in advance the unknown road traffic information,to compensate for the lack of driving people in the process of moving from cognitive,help to improve the safety level of travel.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the effect of VMS on driving visual behavior.This paper mainly studies the influence of text type variable message sign on the driver's visual behavior,on the basis of analyzing the VMS research status at domestic and abroad,the driver's visual characteristics and driving of the VMS visual cognitive model on the basis of using eye tracker,sample driver,in the daytime,to Tianjin thistle speed warning device VMS settings section as the driving simulation test environment,experimental design,research on highway environment for driver VMS visual search mode of VMS,the visual span,the recognition of VMS rate and cumulative fixation time.By using the analytic hierarchy process(AHP)and fuzzy evaluation theory,this paper selects three indicators of cumulative fixation time,VMS screen design elements and logo recognition rate,and establishes the hierarchical structure model to evaluate the effect of VMS.Research has shown that drivers are through found perception,scanning and watching to recognize VMS.Skilled drivers visual cognition of VMS breadth smaller than unskilled drivers,found that early time point,eye movement in reading signs angular velocity is small,the line of sight is more stable and good reading effect.The VMS recognition rate of Skilled drivers is10% higher than unskilled drivers,and less on the accumulation of VMS looking time.Drivers for VMS average recognition rate of 70%,watching cumulative average time of 1.6 s.At the same time,based on the analytic hierarchy process(AHP)and fuzzy evaluation theory constructs the VMS visual cognition effect evaluation model,the experiment of five variable message signs made a final evaluation,and screen size has the highest evaluation weights,Tianjin thistle VMS in high-speed warning equipment better overall,logo three visual recognition effect is good and marks the highest,logo four with lowest visual cognition effect.Widescreen transverse subtitles conforms to the drivers visual search habits.
