War is an permenant political phenomenem,and revolution remarks beginnings of political modernity.In theory of modern Nature Law scholars,war implies death of violence,which is regarded as extreme vice.They appealed to natural reason of human beings,constructing state by consents and contracts,so as to protect life,wealth and safety.By contrast,Hegel regarded permenant peace would brought about corruption.War is neccesary means to maintain dynamic of political body.Enlightenment movement built modern politics upon free will,which demanded all aspects of Ancient Regime judeged by court of reason.In contrast,Hegel pointed out the emptyness and abstraction of pure free will,which implied the rejection of reconstruction of all authority and institution in the period of post-revolution.Revoltion devoured its own child.What must be cautious,Hegel was not intented to promote war,or to deny what revolution established,for his justification of restoration of Prussia.His way of thinking about polical modernity is looking form backward.Although at loss of prescreption,it aquired a powerful explanation.The central propose of Hegels political philosophy is to show that modern state synthesizes both ancinet principle of universality and modern principle of particularity.From the position of war and revolution,we will get more comprehension of modern state.
