Social Participation, Family Support And Mental Health Of Older Adults

The "Active Aging" proposed by the World Health Organization in 2002 was increasingly becoming a new theory,policy and development strategy to solve the Aging population problem all over the world.As the three pillars of the framework "active aging",The view" Health,participation and security" highlight the core views on mental health,social participation and family support for the Old people.Based on the Perspective of Active Aging Theory,this paper focus on the mental health problems of the elderly in China,using the National data of CHARLS2013 and the Statistics Software STATA14.0.The Logistic regression model is used to explore the social participation and family support of the elderly.It is found that the social participation and family support of the elderly Human mental health has a significant impact,social participation and family support will promote its mental health.At the same time,the gender,age,educational level,marital status,household registration and regional characteristics of the elderly.Medical insurance,pension and the physical health of the elderly will also have an impact on mental health.In addition,we divide old people into urban group and rural group to test the impact of social participation and family support on fertility to verify the robustness of the findings.It shows that whether it is for urban elderly or rural elderly,social participation has promoted its mental health.In contrast,family support has a significant effect on the mental health of the urban elderly,but the impact on the mental health of the rural elderly is not significant.At last,based on the perspective of Active Aging Theory,some measures and suggestions are put forward.
