Research On The Influnce Factors And Formation Mechanism Of Public Coping Behavior In Environmental Events

Various environmental problems have become increasingly prominent with the continuous development of economy.Large-scale extreme social psychology and behavior triggered by environmental problems can sometimes be more harmful than environmental risks if they are not effectively guided and controlled.Past researches mainly focused on the analyses of public opinion evolution,risk amplification and their effects on risk perception in environmental events.However,there is not enough literature to give a clear answer to the characteristics and formation mechanism of public cognition and coping behavior in environmental events.This paper takes the risk theory,coping theory,PADM theory(Protective Action Decision Model)and dual path information processing model as the theory base and takes the network information of 150 environmental events in China from 2007 to 2017 as the data base.Firstly,establishing the model of influencing factors of public coping behavior in environmental events and excavating the key factors which affect people's coping behavior through theoretical and statistical analysis.Then selecting 12 incidents from 150 incidents through certain rules as the background and establishing the model of formation mechanism of public coping behavior in environmental events through the method of grounded theory.Researches show that in environmental events,people's risk perception as intermediary variable is affected by both the serious physical consequence of incidents and the government's response and acts on the coping behavior.The stakeholder perception as an intermediary variable is affected by the government's response and acts on the coping behavior.Secondly,groups that are affected by relevant knowledge,aspirations,and accuracy tend to focus on systemic information processing paths when dealing with environmental risk information.Different combinations of serious physical consequences,information sources and channels influence people's risk perception,stakeholder perception,and behavior perception which lead to different coping behaviors through behavioral decision-making process.Thirdly,groups that are affected by mass psychology,NIMBY(not in my backyard)mentality and lack of scientific literacy tend to take heuristic informationprocessing path which based on the pre-decision process,and skip part of perception to make coping decisions directly.In conclusion,this paper clarifies the influencing factors and formation mechanism of the public perception and coping behavior in environmental events.The Introduction of dual path information processing model combined with the PADM theory not only considers the differences between the public risk information processing paths,but also enriches the existing researches of PADM theory.These findings are not only of great significance to the different guidance of reasonable risk perception,and to the optimization of coping strategies but also to the transformation of social development concept and to the improvement of government environmental crisis management ability.
