In the field of international relations, balance of power is a classical diplomacy to achieve peace. The debate has long been heated for what are the requirements of balance of power in academia. The article argues that under methodological pluralism, the structural dynamics and elasticity are two requirements for the balancing peace in terms of structuralism;and socioculture and national psychology are two assurances to prevent balance of power from total failure.Given this, the article selects the appeasement diplomacy Britain and America pursued upon German during 1919-1938 as background, employs two approaches of structuralism and reductionism to analyze the reasons of the war outbreaking and diplomacy failure respectively, and verifies the distinct reasons under two approaches via counterfactual interference. The conclusion lies in that: the reason why European structuralism and its peace design towards Germany failed embodies the underestimation of Germany national psychology, the loss of structural resilience and the insufficiency of structural dynamics. The article proposes to integrate the concept ?unit character? into the analysis paradigm of structuralism, facilitating it with higher explanatory power. |
