Based on the 2014 China Labor-force Dynamic Survey(CLDS)data, the study explores the factors that correlated with working hours and the influencing factors of satisfaction with working hours through a hierarchical OLS regression model and an ordered probit model. The results show that the average working week of employees far exceeds the standard working week, and overtime work is common.Employees ' satisfaction degree of working hours is "medium" on the whole.Different demographic factors and corporate factors can influence the working hours of employees and their preference for working hours.Employees with non-agricultural hukou are likely to work less hours, years of schooling is negatively correlated with working hours.working hours of married male employees are significantly longer than working hours of married female employees. As to unmarried employees, working hours are not significantly different in terms of gender. The working hours of employees in state-owned enterprises are significantly shorter.Employees who signed labor contract in written form, and those who are under unlimited labor contracts work less hours.Union presence in firm has a significant negative effect on number of working hours. When working hours exceed the legal standard working hours, the satisfaction with working hours drops sharply. The satisfaction with working hours of female, married employees, and those who with higher educational level(college or above)is more likely to decline with the increase of working hours, especially for female married employees. When working hours are the same as those of private enterprises, foreign companies, and joint ventures, employees in state-owned enterprises have the lowest overall satisfaction with working hours. However, with the increase in working hours, the decrease in satisfaction degree with working hours of state-owned enterprise employees is the most moderate.Higher income seems to strengthen the negative effect of increasing working hours;those who receive overtime wages have the highest degree of satisfaction with working hours and the negative effect of overtime work is the most moderate. As to employees who have not received any overtime compensation, the degree of satisfaction with working hours is the lowest and the negative effect of overtime work is the strongest;employees who work overtime voluntarily have higher satisfaction with working hours than those who work involuntarily.
