Dialogue And Growth:the Intervention Of Social Work On Urban Street Children Assistance

With the transformation and structural change of Chinese society,the street children are becoming an increasingly prominent socially vulnerable group.So far there have been relevant researches on street children in China;however,most of the researches focus only on social welfare,social exclusion and social security,and researches on institutional salvation of street children viewed from the perspective of philosophy are not yet to be made in China.Basing the research objects on street children and social work involved in institutional salvation of street children,the paper made in-depth investigations into and analysis of the Minor Waif Protection Center of NJ Salvation Management Station and the street children accepted into the station.Besides,integrating the Bakhtin's Theory of Dialogue with professional theories on social work,the paper probed into the demands of street children,the status quo of institutional salvation of street children,the necessity and feasibility for the social work to get involved in institutional salvation of street children,and specific operation mechanism.The work of institutional relief service of street children requires both professional services of public institutions and knowing of the real needs of street children,which can provide targeted social work services.With the adoption of case analysis,interview method and literature method,the paper investigated street children coming to NJ by various channels,and interviewed the street children,working staff of the street children salvation center.After qualitative analysis,the author urged that,on the one hand,the social work would change the conversation mode of street children and remedy the disadvantages of traditional institutional salvation;on the other hand,still there would be some problems like limited resources,the absence of sustainability and inadequate localization.On this basis,combined with the theory of Bakhtin dialogue,some suggestions of improving the rescue of street children work are put forward as follows:Through the dialogue among social workers,street children and other social systematic,the mode of new session service,the system of interactive conversational child protection and the local rescue service in social work are built up.The study shows Dialogue-oriented social work intervention not only can improve the efficiency of institutional relief service of street children,but also can enhance the ability and awareness of dialogue between street children and workers.Through improving interaction at all levels of the social system,it can build a harmonious,mutual aid,win-win relationships,and ultimately comprehend multi-level dialogue based child protection services system.Bakhtin's theory of dialogue consists of three aspects of the power of discourse,the way and the capability of dialogue.To more effectively solve problems and achieve growth and development of street children,Dialogue type of rescue services require workers understand the needs of street children,analyze and evaluate the problems faced by street children,through improving the power of discourse,the way and the capability of dialogue.Bakhtin's theory and social work values,work methods,professional features fit each other,these theories inherent humanism,interpersonal doctrine and human spirit,which can provide a favorable reference for the development of social work theory.
