Martin Buber(1878—1965) is an Austrian philosopher ? thinker ? Jewish historian and educator, and he is also a representative of Existentialism. He is regarded as the most important religious philosopher in twentieth Century with a huge impact on the spiritual life of western, and he is regarded as one of the most influential thinkers of modern western. The purpose of education was seen as an important concept which leading the direction of education development, directing the progress of education practice, and affecting the education evaluation, it is not only the starting point of educational activities, but also the destination of educational activities. Therefore, Martin Buber's view on the purpose of education has great theoretical and practical significance.This paper is mainly divided into five sections to research Martin Buber's view of educational purposes.The first part, biographies, his entire life is divided into five stages: "Mismeeting"---The stage of childhood shadow(1878- 1896), "Dialogue"---The stage of Philosophy horizon(1896- 1898), "Mysticism"---The stage of the formation of Jewish thought and study of Hassidism(1898- 1909), "Mystery" to "dialogue"--- The stage of "philosophy of dialogue" thought was officially formed(1923- 1938), Pacifist ideals--- The stage of his later years(1938- 1965).The second part is the reasons for the formation of Martin Buber's view of education purpose, this paper will summarize the reasons as three aspects: philosophy, theology and personal experiences.The third part is the dimension and content of Martin Buber's idea about educational purposes, mainly divided into two levels: one of the purposes of education is the "dialogue", the other one is "to you ". "Dialogue" also include "the education based on communication " and "trust". "To you " also include "pull the other world into this world" and "wake up potential of religion".The fourth part is the characteristics of Martin Buber's view for the purpose of education, this part is also divided into two aspects: non transcendence and non system.The last part is the enlightenments based on Martin Buber's view for the purpose of education : Pay attention to students' good character cultivation, guide students' creative development, pay attention to the "I---Thou" relationship between teachers and students, practice the "dialogue" teaching method.
