The Relationship Between Teacher-student Relationship,Student Engagement And Social Adjustment Among Higher Grade Students In Primary School

The relationship between teachers and students is the first social relationship built with adult after children leave home.The relationship between teacher-student relationship and social adjustment is not clear.High grade student in primary school is tested in the study,that explore the mediating effect of student engagement between teacher-student relationship and social adjustment through the cross sectional study,explore the stability and possible causal relationship between teacher-student relationship and social adjustment through further cross term and cross section study.Four and five and six grade students in a central primary school in Zhangzhou are received measurement of the questionnaire of teacher-student relationship and the social adjustment questionnaire.Research results show that:(1)The revision of the engagement scale,including cognition,emotion and behavior three dimensions and 18 projects,exploring and confirmatory factor and internal consistency reliability analysis showed that the questionnaire has good reliability and validity.(2)Cross sectional data analysis show that student engagement play an intermediary role between teacher-student relationship and social adjustment.(3)Cross term lagged analysis found that the relationship between teachers and students and social adjustment is affected by gender factors.For girls,the teachers-students relationship and positive adjustment are reciprocal causation relationship;For boys,social adjustment can predict the relationship between teachers and students.(4)Cross lagged regression analysis showed that the six grade social adjustment can predict the relationship between teachers and students in the seven grade.
