In recent years, the performance of national men's short-distance freestyle has been rapidly developed, and has become an important and advantage event in national competitive swimming. Methods of literature review, expert interview, videos observation and image capture and analysis were used in this study, capturing the finals of 50m and 100m freestyle in 2011 and 2015 National Swimming Championships, and analyzing data by using the Swimmingracesy and video editing system (1.0.0.54). Through the data, make conclusions of each kinematic and technical characteristic of China's men's short-distance freestyle swimmers ranked 1-8. We make conclusions as follows, mainly through discussing and analyzing recent performance and four parts of technical characters: starts, turns, swimming, finishes, and the level of speed and endurance:1)The performance in freestyle of 50m and 100m are both apparently improved, especially the 100m, and the performance in 2014 is better than 2015:Ning Zetao's better competitive ability in 2014 is one of the reasons, another one is depended on the competition system.2)The analysis of start concluded the react time, entry distance, underwater kicks, delivery distance and time of 15m. Compared the 4 short-distance freestyle events in 2014 and 2015 National Swimming Championships, there are no significant difference in the react time, entry distance, underwater kicks, delivery distance, but the time of 15m has been significantly improved in 2015.3)The analysis of swimming concluded the stroke frequency, stroke range, speed and time. Compared the 4 short-distance freestyle events in 2014 and 2015 National Swimming Championships, there are no significant differences in the speed and time, but there are significant differences in swimmers ranked 1-8's stroke frequency and range in 100m freestyle in 2014, stroke range in 50m freestyle in 2015.4)The analysis of turns concluded the underwater kicks after turns and time of turns. Compared the turns'data of 100m freestyle events in 2014 and 2015 National Swimming Championships, there are no significant differences in the underwater kicks after turns and time of turns.5)Compared the 4 short-distance freestyle events in 2014 and 2015 National Swimming Championships, there are no significant differences in spurt. But we find that the swimmers ranked 1-8's average time of spurt has been improved in both 2014 and 2015.
