Secondary vocational clothing education is an important part of secondary education. Traditional Chinese culture is a huge treasure of modern fashion design inspiration source. After thousands of years co-creation, the Chinese nature formed their own traditional Chinese costume culture. The theory that man is an integral part of nature, which pursues the harmonious unity of human being and nature, and the national spirit of self-improvement, enterprise and innovation are both bringing infinite inspiration to our fashion design. This paper first stated the core connotation of vocational education, and made simple introduction to training objectives, courses setting, teaching method and current education condition of secondary vocational clothing education. And then briefly described the shortcomings of current fashion design education in our secondary vocational colleges: attach great importance to theory and skill training while ignore culture education; lack recognition of traditional culture; teachers are short of traditional culture background. This paper focused on analysis of humanistic, artistic and social value of traditional Chinese culture in costume design area; through detailed analysis to relationship of traditional Chinese culture and elements in traditional Chinese costumes including plate button,embroidery, auspicious patterns and taping, and their application in modern fashion design, fully reflects the importance of traditional Chinese culture to modern fashion design. This paper, through study on how traditional culture is embedded in modern clothing, explained the spirit and connotation of traditional culture; stated the important meaning of enhancing students' traditional culture background, cultivating their national emotion, improving their using ability to traditional culture elements through strengthening traditional culture education in secondary vocational clothing education; discussed how to combine traditional culture and secondary vocational education, and proposed three ways of strengthening traditional culture education in secondary vocational clothing education: design more courses on traditional Chinese culture introduction, strengthen the Chinese traditional culture elements in practical courses and guide students to do fashion design by using traditional Chinese cultural elements. Only when traditional Chinese culture is integrated into the secondary vocational clothing education, and students truly understand the traditional Chinese culture, can its philosophical and aesthetic ideas be expressed through modern clothing, thus to make traditional Chinese culture continue and carried forward through the power of clothing.
