Function is a very important mathematical concept. There are three kinds of defintions for the function: "variable function", "corresponding function" and "relationship function". The first two are widely used in middle schools of our country, while the third one is used in the American middle schools. By referring to the teaching materials and some related researching papers, the writer of this paper adapted the related teaching materials and did some teaching experiments to find out whether high school students in our country can accept the function definition, hoping to provide references for the edition of the teaching materials in our country.As well as referring to some useful reference books, interviewing, doing questionnaires, the writer did the education experiments in a senior high school(including the classroom teaching experiments and self-study experiments). First of all, the writer chose two parallel classes(class I and class II) in the school where he taught to do the classroom teaching experiments, and the writer taught them by himself. Then the students were tested and case interviewed.Secondly,the writer chose three different levels schools(A, B, C) in zhaoqing city to do the self-study experiments, two classes in each school, and then the students were tested and case interviewed respectively. The specific statistics are as follows:The total score is 70 points, while the qualified line is 42 points. Through the experiments,the writer found that among the students from two classes taking part in classroom teaching experiments, there is no significant difference between them,and about 82% are able to accept the relationship function. Among them, the test of class I is 51.71 on average, the average is 50.73 in class II. While as for the three levels of the students who took part in self-study experiments, there is significant difference between them. Among them, students from level A school got 52.56 on average, and about 91% are able to accept the relationship function; students from level B school got 46.72 on average, and about 71% are able to accept the relationship function; students from level C school got 42.71 on average, and about 56% are able to accept the relationship function.At last, by comparing the scores got from all the experiments, the writer found there are also significant differences. Therefore, according to the results of the experiments, the writer gives some suggestions in the paper.The writer hopes that he can further improve the research methods in the future and at the same time, furthter study the function so as to provide more teaching experience for the theaching of function in high school.
