New definition question is the question that aims to test students' learning ability. It can mainly test students' mathematical ability including the sense of innovation and the ability of abstract generalization. Content of new definition questions is different from the content in senior high school mathematical textbooks. It sets a new circumstance for students that helps them learn how to practice. It constructs a fair environment and helps students show their learning capacity. In practical teaching, we found that a large number of students have difficulties in new definition questions' solving, for example, they do not understand the new definition given by the propositional people, cannot choose a suitable solution, and cannot make necessary calculation either. Therefore, it is very important to find out problems about the new definition questions' solving and track reasons why these problems exit.This article discovered 40 students who have obvious obstructions with the new definition questions' solving in Zibo, Qingdao and Jinan through analyzing verbal reporting, interview and observation. This article aims to find the real reasons why senior high school students have obstructions with the new definition questions' solving and bright up pertinent teaching strategies. We can help students overcome difficulties, improve their mathematical studying ability and let them answer new definition questions successfully by using these strategies.By analyzing verbal reporting, we considered that key factors to solve new definition questions are as follows: Understanding various conditions of the subject quickly and correctly, including examples, algorithms, formulas, symbols, concepts, etc; Comprehending and applying bases which include essential formulas and concepts expertly; Reviewing titles carefully to discover hidden conditions; Simplifying and transforming complex equations masterly; Choosing answering techniques properly; Solving problems clearly and making arithmetical operation properly. Among them, understanding various conditions of the subject is the most difficult part for students at present.According to the research conclusions above, we summarized some reasons through interview and observation why senior students have difficulty in new definition questions' solving are as follows: Key words were neglected by students if they reading examination questions carelessly; Useless information mislead students seriously; Common learning situation has a big influence on students in the process of integrating information; Students tend to take a part as the whole of questions which mean their learning capacity need to be improved; Students are lacked in new definition questions' solving because students cannot think out of box.On the basis of difficulties which students have with solving new definition questions, some pieces of advice are as follows: Teachers need to direct students to gather information form questions and mark key words to get over distraction; Giving students directions that they should figure out questions in an overall situation and improve their self-study skills; Adjusting questions to help students realize the importance of constructing on crucial points; In order to improve students' mathematical ability, teachers should broaden students' scope of knowledge and instruct students to apply them flexibly; Not only train students to improve their ability of directional thinking but also pay more attention on their thinking flexibility; Advocating a question with multiple answers and weighing the advantages and disadvantages of answers in order to choose the best one; Providing a daily practice of new definition questions with the propose of improving students' learning capacity and decreasing their burden of education at the same time; Guiding students to make a positive reflection.
