With college enrollment and comprehensive charge system reform of higher education, the problems of poor students have become the universal, salience, large-scale problems, directly affecting the realization of education fairness, and funding for poor students has become one of the important work of colleges. Determination of the needy students is foremost and the most critical component of poor funding affair, and is also the emphasis and difficulty for poverty aid. Currently, poor students’ identification in college is based on the poor students’ self-identification, with certain passivity and dependence, and as a result, there exits a kind of poverty identification obscure problems. Poverty identification is divided into others recognition and self-identity, accordingly extending others poverty definition and self definition of poverty. And mostly, poor students’ self-definition of poverty plays the key role in solving poor students’ problems.Based on W L Thomas’"situational definition" theory, this study puts forward the concept of poor students’ self-definition of poverty on the basis of present relevant studying, trying to explain the poor students’ problems from students’ subjective level. As following, the research content mainly includes four parts.The first part is about the status of poor students’ identifies. The definition of poverty includes income poverty, capability poverty and right poverty; accordingly, there exists absolute poverty and relative poverty, poverty in subjective and objective, long-term poverty and poverty in short-term, subsistence poverty, living poverty and development poverty, such as multidimensional poverty concept about understanding of poor students. Multiple understandings of poverty and poor students lead to the ambiguous problem of poor students’ identification. College poor students’ identification is divided into others identifies and self identifies, in which others identify, is a kind of screening identification on the basis of ego identifies, and which is confronted with lots of problems. However, poor students’ self identifies are the key to those problems. Ego poverty identify is that poor students make decisions and judgment about ego poverty according to certain standards, as self identifies are ego poverty cognition, ego poverty experience and ego poverty response. With ego poverty identify, those subjective poverty consciousness activity and corresponding behavior practice form the poor students’ self poverty definition system, which is an extension of self-identification of poverty.The second part is about the concept of poor students’ self-definition of poverty. Poor students’ self-definition of poverty is that poor students stress independent self-existence along their understanding poverty and appropriate practical activities, including horizontal "the poor identify poor","the poor identify non-poor","the non-poor identify poor" and "the non-poor identify non-poor"; including longitudinal self poverty experience, self cognition of poverty, self identification of poverty and self response to poverty by means of experience, reflection and other people’s feedback, which has the feature of universality, subjectivity, selectivity and periodicity.The third part is about the problems of students’self poverty definition. By family factors, reference contrast factor and the subjective cognition values influence, poor students’ self-definition of poverty is confronted with the problems of subjective negative awareness of poverty, subjective false determination and passive behavior response, which is an improper self-definition poverty problem. Improper self define poverty problems of poor students in colleges and universities are generally characterized by "false poor students" problems and the "problems" phenomenon of poor students, which are complex problems of college poverty funding, and not only have a negative impact on poor students in their own growth and development, but also bring to poverty funding trouble. By the inner logic of self poverty definition and poor students’ behavioral response attitude, poor students’ self-definition of poverty could face the problems of self poverty definition phase differences and behavior response attitude differences. The existence of self poverty definition differences makes aid work multifarious and puts forward higher requirements for poverty aid work, and in fact the ignorance of the differences leads to poverty funding in trouble.The forth part disscuses the countermeasures of the problems. For revising self poverty definition problems and avoiding the negative influence, we could look forward to strengthening "family, school, society and ego" four integrated education to build the constraint mechanism of poor students’ self-definition of poverty. We should take family education as the basis to strengthen poor students’ values view, interests view and consumption view education; we could take school education as the main position to strengthen poor students’ integrity education, thanksgiving education, poverty education and psychological education; we could rely on society education as the platform to strengthen the social care education and the social sense of responsibility education of poor students; and we could take ego education as a fundamental to make poor students explain, judge and choose reasonably.
