Nowadays,English writing plays an important role in the context of globalization.All aspects of international exchange are inescapably realized by means of the mode of written English.In China,writing skill is considered an essential skill to cultivate.However,it always achieves unsatisfactory results no matter how teachers endeavored.Therefore,it is extremely urgent to look for some effective writing methods.Peer review is one of these effective methods.There are a great many studies on peer review's impact on writing ability,but researchers pay much attention to the influence of peer review on writing scores and its impact on the effect of revising writings.However,they neglect to study peer review on the ability of revising writings.In addition,most of the subjects in researches about peer review are college students.As to the students in Grade One of high school,there is almost no study on them who just passed the Senior High School Entrance Examination and entered the high school.Therefore,the subjects in this research are those students in Grade One of high school.This thesis is based on the cooperative learning theory,writing process theory and the theory of zone of proximal development.In order to study the effect of peer review on the students' ability of revising writings in Grade One of high school,this paper centers on the following three research questions to conduct this research:Can peer review improve the students' ability of revising writings in Grade One of high school?Why peer review improves the students' ability of revising writings in Grade One of high school?How peer review improves the students' ability of revising writings in Grade One of high school?The subjects came from two classes of Science Department in Xiong Yue High School in Liao Ning Province,amounting to 102 students.The experimental class applied peer review activities and the control class was taught in the traditional writing method.The writer conducted an empirical research on them,lasting two months.The research adopted both quantitative and qualitative methods to collect the data,involving two scores of error correction in two classes,two ratios of revised errors in the experimental class,two questionnaires in the experimental class and the records of interviews.In addition,the author used the SPSS Statistic Software to analyze the data in detail.The results of this research are as follows:Peer review improves students' ability of revising writings in Grade One of high school.Peer review changes students' attitude towards revising writings and actions in daily life in Grade One of high school.Employing Gui Shichun's checklist and the assistance of partners improves students' ability of revising writings in Grade One of high school.
