Painting is a visual response for a young children to know and grasp the world. It is the emotional expression for the children. It is also the perceptual performance of children’s psychological development features. As a result, many researchers at home and abroad carry on the research of different levels in order to find the characteristics of children’s painting and sums up the characteristics and general law of children’s painting development.However,the children’s painting have different features due to the gap of economic development level and educational level between urban and rural. The research of children’s painting characteristics in different areas is still weak. The researcher focus on development of urban and rural children’s painting, and compare the same and different painting characteristics.This research mainly uses the table which is named the evaluation test of children’s painting. The researcher has carried on the investigation about the urban and rural children aged 4 to 6, and has carried on the comparative analysis about characteristics of the two types of children’s painting. Researcher selected the three representative cities in henan province, collected 718 copies of children’s paintings and 16 children’s painting video.The paintings of urban children have 331 pictures, and the painting of rural children have 387 picture.Besides,the number of urban and rural preschool children painting video is both 8. The research used the SPSS statistical software to collect and analyze the data, and combined interviews and other research methods for further research. The research drew to the following conclusions through the comparative study about painting features of the urban and rural children aged 4 to 6 :(1) Urban children’s score of paintings are significantly higher than rural children in the total score, and the dimensions of sculpt, composition and color.The urban and rural children of different ages exist interaction in the dimensions of shape,the depth of the image and the color.The urban and rural children of different drawing form exist interaction in the dimensions of total score, visual composition, visual form of distribution, visual relationship between primary and secondary.(2)In the process of painting, the painting of urban and rural children exist differences in the dimension of conception, focus, creativity, independence, self reading..Based on the above research results, in order to promote the level of children’s painting, The researcher try to put forward some suggestions.(1)Urban kindergartens:Grasp the development rule of children’s painting;rich the experience of children’s painting in order to encourage the creative painting;create a painting environment,improve the painting focus.(2)Country’s kindergartens: increase the time of art activity,improve the Children’s painting skills;change the teaching form of painting,encourage the free drawing; rich the experience of children’s painting in order to develop the basic composition ability.
