With the rapid development of our country,international communication becomes more and more frequent.Along with a series of international events,such as Winter Olympics 2022 which will be hold in China,the importance of intercultural communication grows,and English is the key tool in cross cultural communication.Therefore,using English as a tool to communicate fluently is vital important.Meanwhile,under the influence of traditional teaching,language teaching in China mainly focus on language knowledge,grammar,vocabulary and so on and cultural teaching is put aside.In consequence,mistakes are made between international communication,because cultural differences are ignored.Semantically,the band between culture and language is undivided and language represents the unique culture background and way of thinking of a nation.So to master a language one must not only acquire the knowledge and skills of the language,but also learn the culture the language represents.In 2003,the New Senior High School Curriculum Criterion(Experimental)cultural awareness as one target of English teaching,which also shows the importance of teaching culture in language teaching.It enables students fully master the language and improves their accomplishment.It can also inspire their interests,broaden their horizon and enrich their knowledge.Consequently they will love the language they are learning and gain a high mark naturally.the New Senior High School Curriculum Criterion has been used for 13 years and to know exactly how culture teaching has been practiced,this study did surveys through questionares and interviews in Xinxiang XX High School.The result is that there are certain sound effects,but the present situation is not so positive because of the pressure from the Nation College Entrance Examination and the influence from traditional teaching.According to the full and accurate materials and my own teaching practice,this essay will give counter measures to four aspects: the education authorities and schools,teachers,students and text books.This essay develops in six chapters.The first chapter is leading-in which includes the reason why I study this question,the purpose and the importance of this essay and the definition of the key concepts;which also includes the literature review,the methods used and the new points.The second chapter is the theory basis which explains and introduces all the theories that are used in this essay..The third chapter is about the surveys on the awareness of culture teaching in language teaching,which mainly includes the questionares and interviews;which also includes the analysis on high school text books,the parts in Nation College Entrance Examination that includes cultures and New Senior High School Curriculum Criterion.this chapter mainly focus on the present situation of the development of cultural awareness.The forth chapter shows the main factors that restrain the foster of high school cultural awareness,which search causes among the society,schools,teachers and students.The fifth chapter tell the counter measures and resolutions to enhance the cross cultures teaching in senior high school,which is also the key part of the essay.This chapter gives practical methods and suggestions to education authorities,schools,teachers and students on how to develop the awareness of cultures.I hope this essay can be of some help in English teaching theoretically and practically.The sixth chapter is summary.This chapter will make an conclusion of the viewpoints,limitation and questions that need further discussion.
