Study On American Curriculum Standards For Kindergarten

Standards-based Curriculum Reform or Standards Movement has become the global wave of education reform. In June 2010, the United States released the Common Core State Standard which have been adopted by forty-two states, the District of Columbia, four territories etc. by now.In this context, using the method of documentary and the case study research, the paper studies three different hierarchies of texts of the American Curriculum Standards for Kindergarten, including the Common Core State Standards for Kindergarten, Maryland Curriculum Standards for Kindergarten, and the Wicomico County Curriculum Documents for Kindergarten, each of them has two discipline standards of English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science and Technical Subjects and Mathematics Subject.In this study, the structure, content and features of texts of the Common Core State Standards for Kindergarten, Maryland Curriculum Standards for Kindergarten, and the Wicomico County Curriculum Documents for Kindergarten are clarified by textual analysis. Based on this, the hierarchical relationship of three documents is shown so that a correspondence is found between three documents and three styles of standards that are content standard, the performance standard, and the opportunity to learn standard, it is closely related to decentralization of the education system of America. The characteristics of the American Curriculum Standards for Kindergarten are reflected on the basis of analysis and summary. Based on the discipline orientation of learning goals, the characteristics of the American Curriculum Standards for Kindergarten including the small group teaching characteristic of education organization form, the multi-culture characteristic of learning content, etc.. Thinking about the DAP that is closely related to the texts of the American Curriculum Standards for Kindergarten, the proposals of implementing our own Guideline to the Learning and Development of Children Aged 3?6 are put forward by referenced the adoption of the texts of the American Curriculum Standards for Kindergarten.
