The education reform is determined by two factors: one is the development of the society, the other is the international contradiction movement of the education. Curriculum reform is one of the most important topics in current education reform. In 1989, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) published "Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics ". Ten years later, the draft document "Principles and Standards for School Mathematics: Discussion Draft", represents a next step by NCTM in efforts to reflect the new direction of American mathematics education reform.In 1999, the Writing Group of the Standards for the Country Mathematics Curriculum in China worked out "The Tentative Idea of the Standards for the Country Mathematics Curriculum". Because there have been no essays in making systematical study of the two standards and the "tentative idea ". In this paper, we want to point out the advantages and shortcomings of the standards, from which we can predict the direction of the development of the mathematics curriculum today. This paper includes three parts:I. The Background and History of the Development of American School Mathematics Curriculum.1. The general situation of the development of American school mathematics curriculum.2. The change pattern of American school mathematics curriculum.n.On the reform of "Principles and Standards "1. The causes of the revision of "Principles and Standards" and its the development.2. Comparison of "Standards 1989" and "Principle and Standards"3. The direction and tendency of modern mathematics curriculum .HI The comparison and thoughts of the standards for curriculum of Chiqa and that of America .1 The comparison of "The Idea " and 'Trinciples and Standards" From, the comparison we can find:a. "The Idea " and 'Trinciples and Standards" conform to the need of the development of the modern society economy.b. Pay much attention to the effect of the teaching methods in the process of the students' mathematics learning.c. Lay stress on the development of the students' characters.d.
