Mind Mapping is a visual tool of knowledge representation.Mind Mapping can make the scattered knowledge more logical and systematical.Since Mind Mapping concept was introduced into the field of education,it has brought a positive effect on teaching.Mind Mapping has been studied in every discipline now,but in primary school,especially in the teaching of English writing,the application of Mind Mapping is still at the trial stage.Therefore,the author expects to explore the effective strategy of the application of Mind Mapping to the teaching of English writing in senior stage of primary school for improving the students' writing quality.This research selected the students of Grade Six in two classes of Xinhua primary school(Ganjingzi District,Dalian)as the research subjects.There are 24 students in each class and 48 students in total.The experiment lasted for one semester(from September 2015 to December 2015).The experiment was divided into experimental class and control class.During the research,the experimental class used Mind Mapping into English writing,while control class still used the traditional writing method.The research questions are as follows:1.What is the current situation of English writing in senior stage of primary school?2.Is Mind Mapping helpful to enhance pupils' interest in English writing ?3.Whether Mind Mapping can improve the level of English writing in senior stage of primary school or not?This thesis is based on Brain Science theory,Constructivism and Information Processing theory and attempts to apply Mind Mapping to the teaching of English writing in senior stage of primary school.In this research,the instruments include questionnaires,interviews and tests.The author made the questionnaire before and after the experiment.At the same time,some students were randomly selected for the interview before and after the experiment.The author made a pre-test about English writing before the experiment.The result shows that the English writing ability of the two classes are approximately at the same level.However,the author made a post-test about English writing after the experiment.The result shows that students in the experimental class perform slightly better in the English writing.Based on the research,the thesis has drawn the following conclusions:1.The current situation of English writing of the pupils in senior stage of primary school is not optimistic.Students don't know the method of English writing and how to build up the framework of English writing.2.Mind Mapping is beneficial to the conception of English composition,and it ishelpful to inspire students' interest in English writing.3.Mind Mapping contributes to the level of English writing in senior stage of primary school.On the whole,this research is helpful to the application of Mind Mapping to the teaching of English writing in senior stage of primary school.It provides reference for the application of English teaching in primary school.
