Vocabulary teaching is an integral part of English teaching,which runs through the whole English teaching.However,our vocabulary teaching effect isn't very ideal in middle schools.Memetics is a theory to study meme replication and transmission,the core of it is imitation.Broadly,memetics could be applied in the thing that can be imitated to replicate and to transmit in human society.In the perspective of vocabulary teaching,morphemes,word roots,affixes,lexical chunks and relevant vocabulary teaching strategies could be treated as memes,so we can study them based on memetics.In the previous English teaching,memetics is mainly applied in writing in middle schools or universities,rarely involving vocabulary teaching.Therefore,the author introduces memetics to teach English words in the middle school and explores its teaching effect.The experiment chooses two classes' students in Dalian No.18 Middle School as the subjects,and they are divided into the control class and the experimental class.The experiment lasts for a semester.The research is focused on two questions: the first one is about whether teaching English vocabulary based on memetics could improve the interest,self-confidence and initiative of students' vocabulary learning or not.The second one is about whether teaching English vocabulary based on memetics could improve the effectiveness of students' vocabulary learning or not compared with traditional methods.For the purpose of making clear of these questions,the experiment tries to use SPSS 22 to make quantitative and qualitative analyses,case studies and descriptive studies.This article is divided into five chapters: Chapter? analyzes the problems in current vocabulary teaching in middle schools and shows the significance of this thesis.Chapter ?goes over the relevant literature review and makes overviews of the relevant research results,which are the theory bases of the experiment.Chapter ? and Chapter ? are the core of this thesis.Chapter ? firstly states the research questions and objectives,and then it explains the whole process of the experiment in detail through adopting questionnaires,pre-tests and post-tests and etc.Chapter ? is the analysis and discussion of the experiment data.Chapter? is the conclusion of this thesis,and it also explains its implications and limitations.This thesis finds out that memetics could improve not only the interest,self-confidence and initiative of students' vocabulary learning;but also the effectiveness of students' vocabulary learning to a certain extent.
