The Research Of Russell’s View On Educational Aim

As a great British thinker in the last century,in the education of ideology,also by virtue of mathematicians’ preciseness and philosophers’ deepness,combined with the current social status and education problems,Russell presented his own educational ideas.He severely criticized Gentleman Education Theory of John Locke and his educational aim was inclined to value orientation of individualism and liberalism.Turning in the scientific educational aim to adapt to the times that demanded specific guidance should train people with what kind of characters,Russell highly summed up his ideal educational aim in four words,namely: energy,courage,sensitiveness and intelligence.When combined with the social reality with educational aim guidance on how to achieve the proposed path,Russell’ s idea ubiquitously exuded rationalism glory.It seems that education has become a precise art today,with utilitarianism,tendency of emphasizing on knowledge and formalism filled in the whole educational process.At this time,Russell’s educational aim years ago still gives us a lot of inspiration.With methods of the documentary evidence and the historical facts and theoretical analysis,this study was designed to be based on historical background,social background,Russell’s personal experience and his philosophical view to explore the origins which formed his educational aim outlook;and it was focused on Russell’ s own writings and the author’ s related study,then from the perspectives of both macro and micro,his educational aim’ s connotation was discussed;after that,by induction and exploration,Russell’s path for achieving the educational aim of claims was summarized in four aspects: the stage of education,education method,educational principle and the realizing path for the liberal outlook purpose;Finally,I shall make some comments based on those studies of Russell’ s educational aim.
