As the era of knowledge network has been come today, more and more insiders has increasely focused on the imperceptible reform in the area of industrial design. In the twenty-ninth' Annual Congress of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design, the definition of industrial design has been sublimed to the strategic level. The new trend and significance of the industrial design in the knowledge network era has been established in the major consulting project of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and define the new design as innovative design.Based on the research of industrial design, this paper puts forward two criterion for the new assessment of the education of industrial design, which are interdisciplinary and integration of research and practice.Although the interdisciplinary is not a new notion in the education of industrial design, there is still barely usable index system which has embodied the interdisciplinary. This paper choose several particular index in order to reflect the feature of education of industrial design as well as the interdisciplinary.The integration of research and practice is one important method to achieve the interdisciplinary in this paper. Without the deeply integration, the interdisciplinary will transform to purely surface design which is just change the flied.Combined with the industrial design and its education, the evaluation model and index system of educational competitiveness of industrial design has been established, as the direction of competitive research. The index of this system contains a model with a set of 3 elements,6 primary indicators and 23 second level indicators. And then by means of the index system of various indicators, the final results of this paper is the quantitative analysis of the development of the discipline of the industry design education in Chinese universities, the distribution of educational ability, and discusses the advantaged schools of the industrial design and the feasible future development path of the disadvantaged universities.The innovation of this paper is to combine the existing research work to analyze the new trend of industrial design education in the era of knowledge network and set up the educational competitiveness index system which is suitable for the industrial design of our country and the quantitative analysis based on this.
