As the crucial part of harmonious society, social work which should be supported by the professional education and ranks of professional quality is the guarantee of the social security. The professional education of social work, however, is not as perfect as needed, therefore should be further popularized and strengthened in China.The professional education of social work was started by the time of Period of Republic, when the severe social problems of invasions by foreign Powers, backward economy and social upheaval were happened in China. Different with other countries, the professional education of social work in China at that time was based on the theory education instead of social practice. As a pioneer, the Department of Sociology was established in Yenching University to start the professional education of social work in 1992 for training more professional social workers for the country.The paper has focused on the succeeds and experiences of the professional education of social work of Yenching University in Period of Republic as references to improve the the professional education of social work at present. The first part of the paper represents the backgrounds, the purpose, the means and the base of the research. The second part shows the development of the professional education of social work in Period of Republic. The third part, as the most important part of the research, explains the professional education of social work of Yenching University in Period of Republic. The fourth part concludes the features of the professional education of social work of Yenching University in Period of Republic as the references of better development of the present.
