The difficulty of teaching material is the materialized characteristic of course's difficulty. An comprehensive and objective understanding of the teaching material's difficulty is the base of designing teaching material scientifically and improving the teaching quality efficiently. In order to provide useful references for the textbook reform, the purpose of this study is to explore the consistency between the relative difficulty and absolute difficulty of "Function and Application (Sequence of Number)",and to analyze the causes of the difference on the base of the revision of the senior high school mathematics curriculum standards and Knowledge Group idea.The study surveys the questionnaires of 126 teachers in Fujian province, who use the Obligatory Mathematics Textbook of Edition A, edited by Chinese Educational Press. The study found out the relative difficulty of knowledge group in 20 chapters of the teaching material. Moreover,the study researched on the breadth and depth of textbook,the difficulty of exercises and examples of "Function and Application (Sequence of Number)" knowledge group comprehensively by using the Model of Mathematics Teaching Material's Difficulty and the Model of Example's Difficulty,which found out the absolute difficulty of the knowledge group. Finally,the study compared the relative difficulty with absolute difficulty of "Function and Application (Sequence of Number)" knowledge group,determined the 10 divergent chapters that Basic Properties of Function,Exponential Function and so on,and analyzed the causes thoroughly.Based on the study,this paper put forward some suggestions in terms of the understanding of teachers,the compiling of teaching material and improving of models.
