Research On The Social Support For Single Mothers

The causes of single-parent families is varied,such as divorced,widowed,separated etc.Among them divorced or widowed single are major in our country.Single mothers' families as a special form of single-parent families,its number is on the rise year by year,its problem is becoming more and more highlighted.Single mothers facing a great many pressure and predicament.Due to the lack of resources and social support,they are unable to get rid of the difficulty.Single mothers becoming the social vulnerable groups.They need more attention society,they in need of the social support to provide them the resources.So what do single mothers group go through the survival and development dilemma,what is their existing status of social support,how can we mobilize social resources to help the community to establish long-term support mechanism,will serve as a focus in this article.This article adopts qualitative research methods,taking an eight divorced single mothers as the interviewer.From the subjective perspective,through the discourse system of single mothers to show their difficulties and pressure,and under the guidance of the social support theory,puts forward suggestions to improve the single mothers' social support system,and help them to establish a stable longterm social support network,improve their ability to cope with difficulties.The author found that single mothers' problem mainly include the basic living dilemma,the problems of the children,the emotional and psychological difficulties etc.The existing system of social support give priority to informal support,the professional support is deficiency.They rely on the strong relationship to get social support,contact with heterogeneous group are insufficient,and the degree of resource utilization is inadequate.In addition,the author found that single mothers ambivalence in social support,on the one hand they are very eager to someone to help them out of trouble,on the other hand they fear their single status again exposed in front of people,be afraid of being labelled.In the real life,single mother need not only economic help,but also need more spiritual support,they need enough living space.
