Campus popular song, a significant part of popular songs and one of the artistic forms full of the spirit of the times and campus culture, is a window for understanding college students' spiritual needs. The campus popular songs' rapid development during the 1980s added to the colorful campus life. College students' spiritual need has rich contents, various levels and prominent features, which changes with the development of the times and society and constitutes an important research subject for ideological and political education. This paper summarizes college students' spiritual need reflected in the campus popular songs and the developmental features of college students' spiritual need in the light of campus popular songs of the 1980s, casting light on the college ideological and political education. The campus popular songs in the 1980s meet the college students' growing need for learning, emotion, aesthetics and value. Consequently, according to the interaction between campus popular songs and college students' spiritual needs, we should take the songs as the carrier to conduct the ideological and political education about patriotism, collectivism and socialism. We should take those songs as the starting point to cultivate and improve college students' aesthetic perception, imagination and understanding. We also should take the songs as the medium to bring up more excellent songwriters who will create and promote more excellent campus popular songs to meet the demand of college students. In this way, the innovative method is applied in the college ideological and political education.
