In 1912,Juliette Low founded Girl Scouts of the USA,which is an education organization outside school that is specially designed for girls.The organization has emphasized the cultivation of girls' leadership in order to make them be reformers and leaders in the future.Nowadays,Girl Scouts is a pioneer of the leadershipdevelopment for girls.This paper studies and summarizes its successful experiences,from which our related educational organizations can learn and borrow.This thesis consists of six parts,including the introduction,the body of four chapters and the conclusion.The introduction first defines the concepts of "Girl Scouts of the USA" and"leadership",and then illuminates the paper's significance of theory and the practice.Finally,it summarizes the related researches home and abroad,and elaborates the research methods of this paper.The first chapter studies the situation of the leadership development of Girl Scouts,including Girl Scouts' history and the changes of the ideas and contents of the girls' leadership in different periods.Form the beginning to the middle of the 20th century,Girl Scouts emphasized the girls ' individual leadership to change their fate.In the middle and late 20th century,it emphasized leadership from girls themselves to serve their country.Since the 21st century,Girl Scouts has emphasized the girls' team leadership to make sure that they can make the world a better place.The second chapter introduces the organization of Girl Scouts in developing girls'leadership,mainly studies the administrative institutions,personnel allocation,system guarantee and financial support of Girl Scouts.Supported by government funding or social donations,Girl Scouts is a non-profit institution,relying on a large number of voluntary workers,professional staffs,Girl Scouts leaders and Board members.They are also responsible for developing and extending leadership programs as well as leading or assisting the girls to finish all kinds of activities.Under the guarantee of the patrol system,promotion system and incentive system,the girls' leadership has made great progress.The third chapter studies Girl Scouts' leadership programs,including Leadership Journey and assistant programs for girls' leadership development.Based on the characteristics of girls' physical and mental development,Girl Scouts,providing six levels of age-appropriate Leadership Journey,effectively cultivates the girl's leadership at all stages.In order to increase girls' leadership experiences and enhance their leadership levels,assistant programs for leadership development includes the Cookie Sales,STEM,Camping and other outdoor sports.The fourth chapter studies the evaluation of Girl Scouts' leadership development.Leadership is decomposed into three kinds of ability by Girl Scouts,including Discover,Contact and Take Action.And each kind of ability is specially subdivided into five evaluation indexes,and each index related to evaluation contents is associated with the girl scouts on a corresponding grade.Girl Scouts respects the law of girls' physical and mental development,effectively evaluates all the aspects of the leadership qualities and skills of them.The conclusion summarizes the successful experiences of the leadership development of Girl Scouts,including founding an educational organization outside school for girls,establishing systemic mechanism of leadership development,targeting on leadership development programs and concentrating social forces to develop girls' leadership.
