Since the Fourth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee,our country continues to release policies and regulations to strengthen the rights education.Because of lacking research on right education in China,it is urgent to strengthen the research on the right education.American primary and secondary schools are good at rights education,so we can learn from them.This paper includes 4 parts:The introduction part explains the reasons of choosing the topic from three aspects:the national policy,the awareness of civil rights and the lack of domestic research on American rights education.Then this paper reviews the domestic and foreign literatures related to this study,defines the connotation of social studies and rights education,designs the research program,and puts forward the innovation points of this study.In chapter 1 the paper explores the historical origin of American rights education.As a result of the British political legacy,Puritanism and the experience of colonial self-government,the United States formed rights education in the colonial period.Independence war struggling for national independence,the blacks fighting for civil rights in American Civil War,and the blacks fighting for equal rights during the civil rights movement,all of these contribute to the formation of the rights education thought of American.In chapter 2 the paper analyes of goals and cotents in American Social Studies's rights education.The National Curriculum Standards for Social Study,defines the rights education objectives from these four aspects:inquiry questions,knowledge goals,ability objectives and learning outcomes.According to the analysis framework of established rights education content,this paper aims to analyzes the contents of rights education in HM textbooks.On this basis,it reveals the essence of rights education in the United States:rights and obligations are equally important,not absolutely personal first,with national identity as the point.In chapter 3 the paper puts forward the suggestions of reforming rights education in our country.In order to reduce the social problems caused by lacking of rights education,it is urgent to strengthen the education of rights in our country.On the basis of American rights education,combining with the present situation of our country's rights education,this paper puts forward some suggestions on improving rights education in our country from the aspects of improving the curriculum standards and enriching the content of the rights education in the teaching materials.
