Emotional Bond In Social Work Supervisory Relationship:A Grounded Theory Study

Under the guidance of the policy,which refers to strengthening the national governance system and governance ability,social work supervisors,as the professional talents,are playing a leading role for the specialization and professionalization of our local social work.The emotional bond in the local social work supervisory relationship will be discussed in this research,including characteristics as well as the influencing factors.Using the grounded theory approach in the qualitative method,collecting the material by in-depth interviews,and taking use of open coding,axial coding and selective coding,we can find out that:firstly,the emotional bond of supervisory relationship consists of the "primary" emotion and "secondary" emotion,while has a few across section such as expectations,anxiety,resistance and embarrassment.Secondly,with the emotion as shaft,the supervisory relationship experience four stage.They are doubt and trust,conflict and negotiation,active and fear along with intimacy and loneliness.Thirdly,implicit conflict,as a peculiar emotional bond in the supervisory relationship,is a significant form of the interactive process between the supervisor and supervisee.Promise without action,stubborn,lack of trust,lack of identity and discrepancy of idea are the major performance of the implicit conflict.To respect and to compliance are the main strategies to deal with the implicit conflicts.Fourthly,we analyzed the factors influencing the emotional bond in the supervisory relationship from the path of globalization-localization.At last,we take a consideration of the emotional bond,supervisory relationship,supervisory practice and the role of the supervisor.Meanwhile,we made a discussion about the use of grounded theory approach,and also we made an imagination of the future research.On the basis of the framework of globalization vs.localization and bureaucracy vs.emotion in the supervisory relationship,this research used the grounded theory approach and made full use of the subjective role of the supervisor and supervisee.We searched the information from the material and construct the theory about the supervisory relationship.This research provided a theoretical guarantee for optimizing the local supervisory relationship,making contributions on the improvement of the local supervision system and the professional social work.
