Cultivating college students’ sense of social responsibility is an important component of the college ideological and political work.Service learning,as a new teaching and learning method combining theory with practice,is an effective way to help students deepen their responsibility cognition,stimulate the responsibility emotion and lead responsibility behavior.Service learning is also an important way that has kept the basic principle of "sticking to cultivating people by all member,in all round and in the whole process " to strengthen and improve ideological and political work in colleges.Applying service learning in cultivating college students’ sense of social responsibility could improve students’ sense of social responsibility in a creative way.The thesis reviews and comments on the previous studies in China and foreign countries about the meaning,the influence and the application of service learning.On the base of the definition of some basic concepts including service learning and the sense of social responsibility,the methods of literature review and case analysis are applied in this research.At first,it describes the necessity of apply service learning in cultivating college students’sense of social responsibility from theoretical basis and realistic meaning.Although certain achievements have been made,the application of service learning is still in its infancy in China.Moreover,some problems still exist.For instance,most colleges and universities still don’t have service learning courses;learning is divorced from service because of lack of reflection;the way applying service learning in cultivating social responsibility is in a monotonous form;and it is difficult to enhance the effect of responsibility education because of lack of effective evaluation.The thesis further analyzes the causes of these problems,such as the limited attention,the nonstandard process,and an unsound management system.The third part summarizes the experience of service learning in the United States and Taiwan combining some practical cases,in order to provide a reference to enhance the sense of social responsibility in the process of popularizing service learining in the mainland of China.Finally,measures of applying service learning in cultivating college students’ sense of social responsibility are put forward from three aspects,including improving the environment,regulating the process and strengthening the security mechanism.
