The Intervention On Junior High School Students' Academic Help-seeking Negative Attitude

Objective: In order to investigate the relationship between academic help-seeking attitudes and academic help-seeking behavior,it took junior high school students in Nanchang as research object.Then it discussed the effect of the group counseling which wrote based on the theory of cognitive dissonance to improve academic help-seeking behavior through intervention in their academic help-seeking negative attitude.Methods: The study adopted academic help-seeking attitude questionnaire and academic help-seeking behavior questionnaire to investigate 611 junior high school students in Nanchang.32 students who were volunteers were selected from those who ranked top 27% evaluates on the basis of costs of help-seeking,avoidance of help-seeking,executive help-seeking and those who ranked the last 27% on the basis of benefits of help-seeking and instrumental help-seeking.They were divided into two groups.We intervened the experimental group with the counseling of academic help-seeking attitudes for eight times,while the control group did other activities unrelated to academic help-seeking.After the group counseling,statistical analysis were carried out the experimental group's and the control group' s data results before and after comparison.Results:(1)The academic help-seeking attitudes were significantly associated with the academic help-seeking behaviors,and benefits of help-seeking significantly positively predicted instrumental help-seeking;(2)The experimental group before and after the group counseling,positive help-seeking attitudes significantly increased,actively help-seeking behaviors significantly increased and avoidance of help-seeking significantly reduced;(3)In the case of the control group,there were no significant difference in the test both in terms of academic help-seeking attitudes and academic help-seeking behaviors for them.Conclusion:(1)The academic help-seeking attitudes were closely related to academic help-seeking behaviors,and those students who had more benefits of help-seeking would more likely conduct instrumental help-seeking.(2)The group counseling which wrote based on the theory of cognitive dissonance theory can change students' academic help-seeking attitude,effectively promote academic help-seeking behavior,and improve instrumental help-seeking behavior,While reduce the avoidance of help-seeking.
