Along with the development of society, the process of urbanization continues to accelerate, and urban questions continue to highlight where the urban population problem is the most important influenc ing fac tor,so it is very important to obtain real-time population data. But until now,the census is the main way to obtain population data, which not only needs to spend a lot of manpower and resources, but also cannot monitor the dynamic changes in urban population. At the same time, obtaining information in remote sensing images through the GIS will estimate the number of urban population and analyze of the distribution of urban population for the high – precision estimated population number, reduced costs and improved efficiency with a significant meaning to the city's emergency response. With Saihan District of Hohhot City as an example, the author has studied the urban population distribution of the study area in a normal working day through the establishment of population density model.Based on the existing classification method, this author establishes the urban land use classification system of the study area, studies the urban population's spatial and temporal distribution characteristics, interprets the high-resolution remote sensing image of the study area by visual interpretation method, and obtains the land use type of the study area.A three-dimens ional model of buildings is obtained using the SketchUp modeling software to get the building height and floor number.According to the time distribution characteristics of urban population and the attraction value of land use type in different periods, the author has estimated the population density of each land use type in different periods of the study area, simulated the population number of different land use types in different periods by the population density, produced the thematic maps, and analyzed the simulation results. The following conclusions are drawn:(1)In the first and fifth periods of the study area, the urban population is mostly on the way between the home and the office that is distributed in the traffic area. The land area of 1-197 people accounts for 62.6% giving priority to traffic facilities, the land area of 198-593 people accounts for 31% giving priority to middle – level res idence, the land area of 594-1197 people accounts for 3.9% giving priority to student dormitories and middle – level and high – level res idence, and the land area of over 1198 people accounts for 2.5% giving priority to higher high – grade residence.(2)In the second and fourth periods of the study area, the urban population is mostly on the way to the office or school. The land area of 1-534 people gives priority to the retail commercial business and some administrative offices, the land area of 535-1411 people gives priority to the scientific research sites and some small and medium enterprises of the study area, the land area of 1412-5409 people gives priority to the large commerc ial and financial land such as office buildings containing many companies with a larger population dens ity,and the land area of over 5410 people gives priority to the production and supply sites.(3)In the third period of the study area, the urban population is mainly for lunch break and meal. After statistics, the land area of 1-650 people accounts for 93.4% giving priority to small shops, restaurants and other commercial land and low-rise residence, the land area of 651-1414 people accounts for 4.5% giving priority to high-rise residence, large shopping malls, middle and high-end hotels, and the land area of over 1415 people accounts for 2.1%giving priority to high-grade residence, large shopping malls, middle and high-end hotels and student dormitories.(4)In the third period of the study area, the urban population is mainly for shopping, leisure and exercise, which is mostly distributed in squares, parks, large shopping malls, and cultural and sports sites.(5)In the seventh period of the study area, the urban population is mostly distributed in the residence and dormitories.
