In recent years,autonomous education has been attracting the attention of scholars and gradually becomes a hot spot at home and abroad.There are many researches of teacher autonomy(TA)or learner autonomy(LA)at home and abroad.And most of them abroad have achieved fruitful results,but researches on their combination are relatively rare.While consulting CNKI net,the author gets 2164 related results about “teacher autonomy” by theme searching.There are 2535 related results about “learner autonomy” by theme searching.Yet there are only 1081 related results about “teacher autonomy and learner autonomy” by theme searching.And most of them stay in theoretical study,thus the author takes the senior high school English as an example and focuses on the correlation between TA and LA in this paper.TA in this paper mainly refers that teachers have abilities to direct themselves rightly;teachers have their own ideas and are not influenced by external factors;teachers have a strong sense of self-development.While LA in this paper mainly refers that learners posses abilities of autonomous learning consciousness;learners posses regulated learning strategy in order to learn well during their learning;learners could monitor themselves well during language learning.The purpose of this study is to understand and explore the relationship between English teacher autonomy(ETA)and English learner autonomy(ELA)in senior high schools.Based on the social environment of English teaching in China,the study introduces the origination and definition of TA and LA at home and abroad.The author defines TA and LA which fits the study.A brief account of the relationship between TA and LA will be introduced then.122 English teachers and 424 learners of senior high schools in Xinyang City were surveyed by questionnaires,and 8 of them were interviewed.Further more,according to the survey results and interview records,the data collecting and data processing are dealt by software SPSS20.0.Based on the above analysis,the study explores the correlation between ETA and ELA in senior high schools.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)The level of ETA in senior high schools is generally above average and the level of ELA in senior high schools is generally at average.(2)There is a significant positive correlation between ETA and ELA in senior high schools.It is to say that there is a significant positive correlation between ELA and each of its three dimensions such as self-direction,self-assertion and self-development.As the same,there exists significant positive correlation between ETA and each of its three dimensions such as autonomous learning consciousness,self-regulated learning strategy and self-monitoring ability.Finally,based on the analysis of its status of the questionnaires on ETA and ELA in senior high schools,some suggestions and strategies are put forward to improve ETA and ELA.Future researches can explore other factors that affect ETA and ELA.
