The “number of letters” is the beginning of the transition from the natural “arithmetic language” to the abstract “algebra language”.It is an important foundation for the students to learn the algebra,and it is the important foundation of the learning equation and inequality.Let the students set up the sense of “the number of letters” in order to lay the foundation for the students to set up the algebra thinking.The students of grade seven to appear in the learning process of “letters” of the problem,put forward the teaching strategy,and through the test of a semester,verify the effectiveness of the teaching strategy,and found some problems.During the course of the investigation,most students are still used to thinking about problems with arithmetic thinking.Along with the age growth and teaching deeply,the situation has changed,the algebra of student's thinking is more perfect,but the students to grasp the overall number of letters is not enough,the understanding is shallow,more students in the habit of using specific numerals.According to the characteristics of the seven grade students,the author established the teaching strategy to help the students to establish the “process” understanding.After one semester the students carried out a questionnaire survey and analysis: according to the answer of the students “cognitive level of the number of letters” consciousness has been improved,more and more students to reach the level of relational structure,the number of extended abstract structure level are also nearly doubled.The average score of students has been greatly improved,can improve the standard of writing and better understand the questions and find the answer in the way.The results show that the teaching strategy for the implementation of the project is effective,and it also reflects some problems in the current mathematics education.Suggestions to promote the teaching of Mathematics between arithmetic and algebraic relations,improve the students in mathematics reading comprehension ability,strengthen the cultivation of students' creativity,increase the interaction between teachers and students,make better grade seven students to establish algebraic thinking.
