Mathematical language,an effective tool for mathematical exchanges,is the carrier of mathematical knowledge and thinking.What’s more,we can say that mathematics education is the education of mathematical language.Mathematical language according to its form of expression can be divided into three types,including literal language,symbolic language and schema language.In the process of solving problem,it is always needed to convert the languages mentioned above from one form to another one.In fact,the ability of conversion of language is an important symbol of mathematical ability.In the 21 st century,the world have entered a "reading" age,students should have a certain ability of reading,mapping and using of the map.And it is the demand of the age for all the students to obtain some degree of language conversion ability.In order to investigate the status of the language conversion ability on senior one students.our work has made the corresponding tests through the analysis of the literature and visiting the schools in different levels in the city of Handan to carry out the preliminary survey.Ultimately,four schools including 209 students were selected as a sample to conduct a formal test.The test was mainly used to checkout the ability in three aspects.Including the conversion from schema language into literal language,from graphic language into symbolic language and the conversion of the graphic language itself.And then,we did some personal interviews with some students and teachers to make up for the shortcomings of our study.The results revealed that the language conversion ability of high school students is relatively poor in the following aspects: the conversion from graphic language into literal language,the conversion from image language into symbolic language,the conversion among the chart language.The details are following:(1)The majority of students is poor in expression of language,like ambiguous expression,inaccuracy in words,lengthiness and so on.(2)The majority of students’ reading ability is poor,especially in the understanding of the the relationship of facts in a image in the location and quantity,and describing the relation of shape and quantity.(3)While most of the students have some grasp in the shape of the special function,but some relationship hided in quantity is rather difficult for them to make sure.(4)Application consciousness in symbol for most students is poor since the lack of understanding in the geometric meaning of sign language.(5)Half of the students have a weak sense of the map resulting in the misunderstanding for ignoring the description of the words and symbols.(6)Students have poor ability in drawing a map,only a few students can regulate the graphics correctly.(7)Students’ ability in transferring the graphics language into image language is relatively better.Considering this conditions,some suggestions and strategies following have been put forward.Strategies on improve the ability of reading:(1)Cultivate students’ reading interest to improve students’ reading ability.(2)Enrich students map reading materials to improve students’ ability of reading.Strategies on improve the ability of drawing map:(1)Teachers should pay much more attention to the teaching of basic graphics.(2)In the education process,teacher should give students much more chance to enhance the ability of drawing the map.(3)Developing good habits of drawing should be payed more attention.Strategies on improve the ability of using map:(1)Develop other forms mathematical languages on the basis of schema language.(2)Emphasis on schema language in teaching process.(3)Focus on the basic concept and interpret the concept of fine meaning.
