With the acceleration of the urbanization process in China,the flowing number of rural labor force to the city has become increasingly large,thus the education problems of the children from migrant workers' family have aroused the concern of all parties.Based on English studies,this thesis focuses on the current situation of migrant children's English learning in big cities,investigating the problems existed in the process of their English learning and analyzing the relevant influencing factors,and tries to give relevant suggestions to promote the current situation.This thesis chooses a secondary school in Xuhui District of Shanghai as an example,and selects students of Grade Six and Grade Seven as the subjects of the study.This thesis compares the differences between migrant children and Shanghai students by questionnaire and interview,and then analyzes the factors that affect their English learning from internal and external angles.According to the results of the study,some suggestions were put forward from the following five aspects: country,school,teacher,parents and students,and this thesis tries to explore ways to promote migrant children's English learning and their physical and mental development.The results have shown that: 1.On the whole,the English learning level of migrant children is significantly lower than that of Shanghai students.2.The internal and external factors have different effects on the English learning level of migrant children.3.Among the internal factors,learning attitudes,learning habits and learning strategies have a great influence on the English learning level of migrant children.4.Among the external factors,teachers,families and schools have a great influence on the English learning level of migrant children.Based on the problems found in the study,combining follow-up interviews and the valuable information getting from case studies,the thesis puts forward some improvement measures under the guidance of relevant theories from five angles: the national policy,the school,the family,the English teacher,and the student.First of all,the state should adhere to the equality in education on the basis of optimizing the allocation of resources and make appropriate policy preference.Second,schools should strive to create a positive atmosphere of English learning,and actively help the children having learning difficulties.English teachers should remove the prejudice against the migrant children,and adjust their teaching methods to strengthen the guidance to migrant children.Migrant workers should pay more attention to their children's English learning,participate in their study,and also communicate with the school and English teachers timely.Migrant children themselves should make their own efforts to adjust their English learning attitudes,learning habits and learning methods.These measures will help to improve the current situation of migrant children's English learning and improve their English proficiency.
