With the appearance and development of the famous educational belief that learners are the center of the class in recent years,the focus of the foreign language teaching has shifted from studying how to teach to how to learn.And the individual differences of foreign language learners have gradually become the very important subject of foreign language teaching and learning both at home and abroad.As the two important theories about individual differences,learning styles and multiple intelligence have been paid more and more attention and lots of achievements have been made.Moreover,several research states that they have a close relationship and they complement and promote each other.The combination between them is able to supply effective methods and thoughts to individualized teaching.However,the number of the correlational studies about them is far from enough and they haven't reached an agreement by referring the previous literature.Furthermore,the majority of them are based on college students and vocational students.The articles about senior high school students are relatively few.Therefore,this research is carried out with the background of it and tries to investigate the preferences of senior high school science students' learning styles and the distribution of multiple intelligence.Moreover,it also analyzes the relationship between them.Finally,it is expected to benefit from providing theoretical and practical implications for the individualized instruction and maximize foreign language learners' potential by exploring a better method combining learning styles and multiple intelligence together.This research selected 120 students in Grade two from Luliang Hechang High School in Shanxi Province as the research participants and investigated the situation of senior high school science students' learning styles and multiple intelligence by using Perceptual Learning Style Preferences Questionnaire and Multiple Intelligence Questionnaire.What's more,data are collected and analyzed to clarify the relationship between them through SPSS.In order to make the research results more valid,the interview for teachers and classroom observation are also employed as the complement.The findings of the research are the following:1.According to the investigation for the learning styles preferences of senior high school science students in English learning,it is suggested that visual style,individual style and auditory style are their dominant learning styles in English learning and the group style is the least used learning style.2.In terms of the distribution of senior high school science students' multiple intelligence in English learning,they do best in logic / mathematics intelligence,visual / spatial intelligence and intrapersonal intelligence.And they are not so good at verbal / linguistic intelligence and musical / rhythmic intelligence.The naturalist intelligence is the least proficient one.3.As to the relationship between senior high school science students' learning styles and multiple intelligence in English learning,according to the pearson correlation coefficient,there are positive correlation between visual learning style and logic / mathematics intelligence,visual learning style and visual / spatial intelligence,tactile learning style and logic / mathematics intelligence,kinesthetic learning style and bodily / kinesthetic intelligence,and group learning style and interpersonal intelligence.There are no significant relationships among other learning styles and multiple intelligence.This research explores two beneficial theories and tries to enrich their correlational studies so that foreign language teachers can take advantage of their own strengths and develop students' potential more.As a consequence,students are able to enhance their learning effectiveness and overall quality.Finally,it is expected to contribute to English teaching and the development of individualized instruction.
