| Listening is an essential skill in second language acquisition.An increasing number of scholars and teachers have paid attention to listening teaching.As a result,numerous theoretical and empirical studies on English listening teaching have been conducted to find a teaching method to help improve students’ listening proficiency.As a newly-developing teaching method,Anchored Instruction Model has been applied in different subjects,including English.However,researches concerning Anchored Instruction Model at home mainly focus on teaching English reading and writing,the studies on application of Anchored Instruction Model to English listening teaching in junior high school are pretty insufficient.Under this circumstance,an empirical study on the application of Anchored Instruction Model to English listening in junior high school was carried out to find out the effects of Anchored Instruction Model on students’ listening achievement and students’ interest and motivation in listening.Besides,the effects of Anchored Instruction Model on students with different level of English listening proficiency are also a focus in this thesis.In order to find answers to these questions,an 11-week experiment was conducted with 68 students from two classes in a junior high school.In the process of research,data were collected with three instruments,that is,tests,teaching experiment and questionnaires.Through pre-test,it was found that the two classes were at similar level in listening proficiency so one class was randomly chosen as Experiment Class and the other one as Control Class.During the experiment,the Anchored Instruction Model was applied in Experiment Class and traditional method in Control Class.The study found that the Experimental Class did better in post-test than the Controlled Class,indicating Anchored Instruction is effective in improving students’ English listening proficiency.Besides,analysis of questionnaire revealed that interest and motivation of students in Experimental Class was enhanced after teaching experiment,suggesting Anchored Instruction Model is effective in enhancing students’ interest and motivation in English listening.In addition,students with low listening proficiency made the most progress after the experiment.Finally,some practical implications for both teachers and students in junior high school are proposed to better apply Anchored Instruction Model in English listening teaching. |
