Listening,as an important component of language integrative competence,is of great significance in our daily life as well as in English learning.Listening comprehension plays a vital role in English teaching in junior middle school as well.Nevertheless,the conventional teaching approach is applied in English listening teaching in junior middle school for a long period.In this way,students accept knowledge passively and lack interest.In order to change the current situation,inspire students’ learning interest and improve their listening comprehension ability,this thesis introduces Anchored Instruction into English listening instruction.Anchored Instruction is a teaching approach on the basis of Constructivism which attaches importance to situating teaching in the infectious real situation to stimulate students’ learning motivation.It urges students to acquire knowledge and achieve learning objectives through autonomous learning and cooperative learning.This teaching approach developed by Cognition & Technology Group at Vanderbilt(CTGV)is widely carried out in the education of elementary cultural knowledge and mathematics skills.In China,the study of Anchored Instruction mainly appears in the fields of college language teaching,few of which pay attention to middle-school English teaching.The thesis intends to apply Anchored Instruction to English listening teaching in junior middle school,and to answer two questions as follows:1: Can Anchored Instruction inspire students’ learning interest?2: Can Anchored Instruction improve students’ listening competence?The author carried out a teaching experiment for two months.In the experiment,two classes of grade eight from Zhengzhou Huimin Junior Middle School are chosen as the research subjects.Class one is the experimental class and the teacher applied the Anchored Instruction.Class two is the control class and the teacher still used the conventional teaching model.The instruments used in this research include test,questionnaire as well as interview.The data from pre-test and post-test were analyzed by SPSS 20.0.Through the analysis of the scores from tests,the discussion of the responses from questionnaires and interview,the author gets the following conclusions: Anchored Instruction is superior to the conventional teaching approach;it is helpful for junior middle school students to motivate their learning interest and also improve their listening competence.
