As the guiding document for English teaching,the English Curriculum Standards have been studied by many countries and regions such as America,Britain and Hong Kong.Mainland China and Taiwan share the same root and ancestry and the English documents between them reflect the English learning laws of Chinese people.Therefore,Mainland China and Taiwan's English curriculum documents have something to learn from each other.By comparing and analyzing the high school English curriculum documents between Mainland China and Taiwan,this research aims to understand the characteristics of the two documents,and find out the similarities and differences between them in terms of specific contents,to provide suggestions for our country's high school English course reform.The study makes a horizontal and vertical comparison and analysis with the comparative method and content analysis method and so on.It analyzes the similarities and differences of Mainland China's English Curriculum Standard for Chinese High School Students(2003)and Taiwan's English Curriculum Syllabus for National Secondary School(2004)mainly from the aspects of curriculum ideas,curriculum objectives,and curriculum implementation proposals and so on.The research has found that the similarities of them are:(1)More attention is paid to the cultivation of students' foreign language communicative competence;(2)The setting of English courses aims to promote the development of students,and can fully arouse the enthusiasm of students;(3)Diversified teaching evaluation is actively advocated;(4)More emphasis is put on the development of the curriculum resources;(5)Cultivation of students' basic abilities is highlighted and the teaching of knowledge is desalinated.And the main differences are:(1)the curriculum ideas;(2)the curriculum objectives;(3)the curriculum implementation proposals.Based on the analysis of the differences and similarities between the two documents,and combing the present situation of the high school English teaching in China,some suggestions are put forward in the research for the further improvement of Mainland China's high school English curriculum reform from the perspective of development:(1)Create more natural English learning environment based on the new English teaching idea that English teaching should be student-centered and the teacher as a supervisor.(2)Advocate the diversified teaching modes,and expand the amount and types of teaching cases in the curriculum standard,in order to increase the intuition and intelligibility of the standard.(3)Maximize the supplement of extracurricular resources on students' English learning,which is a good way to expand students' vision and open their mind.(4)Establish a diversified evaluation system to promote the harmonious relationship between teachers and students and help them grow up together.
